Lifestyle Change: How Companies Can Help
In Japan today it is not only women who have commitments on their time outside the workplace. An increasing number of men are facing the prospect of extended elder care responsibilities, which places pressure on their ability to work traditional Japanese salaryman hours. In addition, Japanese millennials are no longer interested in the singular focus on work that was the hallmark of their parents’ and grandparents’ generations.
This panel will discuss the type of policies and programs that companies can adopt, so that staff can meet their commitments both inside and outside the workplace. The panelists include women with personal experience of these issues, as well as representatives of companies that are actively engaged in testing new ways of working to achieve beneficial outcomes for both the company and its staff.
The panel will be moderated by Makiko Tachimori (Fukui), President of Harmony Residence, Inc., a recruiting firm specializing in introducing qualified bilingual women leaders. Ms. Fukui is a Vice Chair of the ACCJ’s Women in Business Committee, and was one of the drafters of the ACCJ’s Women in Business White Paper, released earlier this year. Ms. Fukui will not only moderate this session, but will share some of the insights from the White Paper, as well as her own experiences of these issues.
